How dod i know if my ex boyfrien still loves me?

me and my ex have been broken up for 1yrs and a few months but we still talk and get along good. Sometimes things are super good between us other times its horrible i told him that i still wanted him back but all he says is that he doesnt know?? idk what that means does that mean no?
