What is the DoD job called where they check the ID's at the front of the gate?

My husband is military police in the Navy. He likes the job and once he gets out of the military he would like to get a job with the DoD where they check the military IDs for the people entering the base...we are just not exactly sure what they are called. Can someone who knows the official name for that job and how to apply for the job please tell us :) Thanks!
